The Horham Care Farm Dairy

Our dairy is now in full production and we are making semi-soft and semi-hard cheeses using pasteurised goat’s milk, lovingly donated by our small herd of Golden Guernsey and Toggenberg goats. We hope to expand our range of dairy produce to include butter, yoghurt and ice-cream in the very near future and of course we are already making goat’s milk soap bars. Our farm helpers are involved in looking after the goats, leading them into the parlour for milking and bottle feeding the baby goat kids. Our products are sold from the dairy as well as local farmer’s markets. Milk yield does vary at certain times of the year so some of our products will not always be available.

Goat’s milk is highly nutritious and because it is naturally lower in cholesterol than cow’s milk it is beneficial for people that have digestive problems or are lactose intolerant. It has other benefits too:-

  • It has fewer allergenic proteins and causes less inflammation

  • It keeps skin looking good and can help soothe conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dry itchy skin

  • It helps the body absorb nutrients and minerals better than cows' milk

  • Goats' milk is more similar to human milk and can act as a probiotic, maintaining a healthier digestive system by encouraging the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and preventing the growth of harmful bacteria

  • It is much easier for the stomach to digest
